Some of Carole's lessons were not brought over from the other board. I was looking for this one and thought I would post it here before it is lost forever! Shocked I will post it in the reply to this post. Confused

Writing a LINK

How to write a LINK and not have it run off the end of the page and into oblivion.

You will often need/want to cut and paste the link – also known as the url to put it into a document you are working on. Now the problem arises when the url you want to use is too long. The answer then is to ‘shrink’ it when you put it into your document. This can be achieved quite easily and will ensure that your readers have an easily accessible point from where they can open the link to your chosen information.

So let’s assume that this is the url that you want to embed into your message:

ec.europa.eu/youreurop...index.html

Certainly not as long as some – but for this lesson, that is not important. To hide ANY link all you have to do to the url in question is to wrap the letters (shown here in red to make them easy to see) around the url. So the ‘link above, before posting/submitting would look like this:

So the at the end says ‘this is the end of the info’.
Then the words (which I usually put in UPPER CASE) that follow are the title you want your readers to see. These are all closed off then with this:

Now if you do all this – making sure that you have not left any extra spaces ( the most common one is [url=_http…… hidden away between the = and the http and hard to spot),then your link should show like this:
(and this one should work - go on - try, I dare you!!!)

Sure. I was looking for it to change my signature so the whole web address does not show up. But with these green pages you cannot see the blue text. Anyway to change the text color?
Thanks.

Links are usually blue unless you are creating webpage in which case through html code you can change the font size and color. The html code is on activated here. Its set up as a standard link.

I can't get into the files to change this options..they appear locked. Sorry...I'll try and find a way around it though.

It's OK - don't worry about it. I thought it could be a simple fix. Perhaps I should forget about my vanity and invest in a new pair of glasses. Shocked
