I am having trouble figuring out what exactly is meant on a ship manifest list.

Ernest Ferretti, born 1898. According to his naturalization papers, he was from Acquasanta Falciano Ascoli Piceno. I think that means Aquasanta Terme, as I found that as a town in Ascoli Piceno. Anyway, on his ship record, which was the Cretic, arriving from Naples to Boston on April 15, 1921, he is listed as Oreste Ferretti. He is going to Pittsburgh to meet his uncle Vincenzo Ferretti. Under his relative's name in his hometown, it reads like this:
Sante Ferretti Felciano Ascoli Piceno. Is Sante used as a first name?
I don't really know what Felciano or Falciano means. I can't find it listed as a town or area in Italy. Do you have any idea what it could mean?

Hi!

FELICIANO is a surname in Italy, listed here: www.cognomiitaliani.or...0006av.htm It is similar to one of the names you posted.

Feliciano has a strain in Rome and one in Naples and Pollena Trocchia (from an online translator)

Sante is a very common first name for a man. Santa for a woman, maybe the relative is his wife and her surname is Feliciano. The Ferretti may have been added in the American way!

Hi,
Acquasanta Terme is part of the province of Ascoli Piceno. The territory of Acquasanta Terme is quite extended and includes several hamlets scattered around on hills and mountains. One of those hamlets (in Italian we call them "frazione") is Colle Falciano or just Falciano. You can see it on Google maps if you insert: Falciano, Acquasanta Terme. Also if you look at the Italian White pages HERE, you can see that there are three people with surname Ferretti in Frazione Falciano.
Hope this helps.

Ada

Ah, sempre la storia dei topi e dei gatti.... Tanto penso che chi ha postato non abbia più interesse a vedere le risposte.

Ernest Ferretti's daughter is still alive - she is my cousin. If you are still looking for information on my Uncle Ernest let me know.
