The following is my attempt at a letter to the Archives hoping they will locate the rest of my families birth records. I hope this is nice enough. Wink

Quote::
Dear Ms. Paola Margarita,
I want to thank you for your efforts in locating the Ruoli Matricolari of my great grandfather Antonio Rescigno. I am especially appreciative of your also locating his birth record as well.

In the past I have written several times to request the birth records of my grand uncles as well as my great grandfather. I had not received a response whether they had been located or not. Would it be possible to request another search at this time for those records? I would be most appreciative of your efforts.

They are as follows:

Gennaro Rescigno b. 20 January 1837, Roccapiemonte
d. 20 January 1837, Roccapiemonte
Vincenzo Rescigno b. 15 April 1840, Roccapiemonte
d. 8 August 1882, Castellammare di Stabia
Francesco Rescigno b. 31 October 1841, Roccapiemonte
d. 17 November 1880, Castellammare di Stabia
Giuseppe Rescigno b. 3 June 1844, Roccapiemonte
d. 1912 Castellammare di Stabia
Alfonso Rescigno b. 1 May 1849, Roccapiemonte
d. 27 August 1850, Roccapiemonte
Alfonso Rescigno b. 5 January 1852, Roccapiemonte
d. 1919, Castellammare di Stabia

figlio di Giovanni Rescigno e Angela Marie Angrisano, Roccapiemonte
They all registered for the military in Castellammare di Stabia.

I thank you in advance for your help.

Sincerely,

If someone can improve and translate to Italian I would be very grateful.

lilbees, maybe my translation was not clear enough, the letter that you received from Salerno does not say that they have the Ruoli Matricolari for Antonio Rescigno, it says that the oldest ones that they have are from 1866...

Gentilissima dott.ssa Margarita,

Gennaro Rescigno n. 20 gennaio 1837, Roccapiemonte
m. 20 gennaio 1837, Roccapiemonte
Vincenzo Rescigno n. 15 aprilw 1840, Roccapiemonte
m. 8 agostot 1882, Castellammare di Stabia
Francesco Rescigno n. 31 ottobre 1841, Roccapiemonte
m. 17 novembre 1880, Castellammare di Stabia
Giuseppe Rescigno n. 3 giugno 1844, Roccapiemonte
m. 1912 Castellammare di Stabia
Alfonso Rescigno n. 1 maggio 1849, Roccapiemonte
m. 27 agosto 1850, Roccapiemonte
Alfonso Rescigno n. 5 gennaio 1852, Roccapiemonte,

Distinti saluti,

Thank you Livio. When the Archives specified in another email that they required 4.50 euro per copy I assumed it was for both documents. Oh well.

Thank for you checking and translating my letter. I will send it today.

Have a question though. My great grandfather registered for the military 1864 when he turned 18 in Castellammare di Stabia (class of 1846). Would he immediately serve in the military at that time for his 3 years?

I read somewhere that, in the period you mentioned, it could take up to 1 year from when they registered to the moment they were called to serve.

Since he registered in Castellammare di Stabia I am going to give Naples another try.

Have you thought about spacing out your requests and sending them one or two at a time? Maybe they see the list and put it aside because it is more work than a single request? Just a thought. Wink

My requests to both the Archives has been spaced out over the last 3 years or more doing one individual at a time. I have done follow-up letters as well. I found they do have my letters because when they finally respond all letters written are usually attached.
I think they do finally believe I am doing family research and not pursuing just dual citizenship. I want the knowledge, not just a piece of paper. The actual copies they provide give me clues to my family that would not be there on an extract.

I do respect the Archives and the hard work they do and the attempts they are making for restoration and preservation of documents they hold.
