Good to see there are those familiar with the Catasto's here. Maybe you can answer another question of mine. Often the person is said to 'abita in case propria' which I read as lives in own house, but then goes on to say in the next sentence 'and pays "either a person or church" a set amount of money.

Is this sort of a old fashioned 'mortgage' or debt borrowed on the house ?

The reason why I can't find the distincition is that for example if it is paid to person X and I look at persons X's assets it usually doesn't list this income as an 'asset'.
- Questions-
Could it be that the property at one time had been part of a "feudo"? and that is a tax? The same in the case of property of a parish? Also, somewhere it is mentioned a tax = "testa"? the head of the family?

I got a PM from Luca, he would like to answer and thank for the compliments that he is receiving from you, but he is having problems to connect to this forum from home. That's very strange because he has no problems when he is at work and the issue is only with Gente di Mare Twisted Evil

BTW I would also like to give my 2 cents: to think of Luca as a simple translator is very reductive, I believe his real talent is reading old documents and translate them from Latin. If Luca wasn't there, Carole and myself wouldn't have been able to translate in English a lot of vital documents. Luca deserve a special label... and a special dance

I totally agree Livio - Luca's 'forte' is his transcription work for people like us...without HIM we would often be hard pushed to produce any kind of comprehensible work.

Don't be so hard on yourself Luca. Translation isn't just from one language to another, but also translation of hand written work into a legible format. You are indeed a translator AND a translator's saviour!

P.S. I can't be doing with these darned bananas..... so here's MY 'wabbit' for you all - beware though - he just loooooves bananas!!!

Thank you Livio (and everyone!).
Maybe I was misunderstood! ( Very Happy Someone, here in Italy, is often in my position Mr. Green Mr. Green Silvio docet). I meant: I think to do well my job when it needs a "transcription" (from latin or old italian) rather than a "translation" (from italian to English Embarassed ).
Anyway, who can tell me why I can't be able to connect to gente from home? Evil or Very Mad Like Livio said: -That's very strange because he has no problems when he is at work and the issue is only with Gente di Mare - neclord neclord

Hi Luca.
I'm sorry I have no idea why you can't access "Gente" from the pc at your place of work. Is it your pc? Sorry to ask, but I have no idea... it's just that I think there is a way that certain sites can be 'blocked' and access denied (a bit like you can do for children).

I just hope someone else here may have an idea - I'm certain that we - as admin - have no way of 'blocking' ANYONE - least of all you! kiss

Glad you like the agitated 'wabbit'!

Luca

Did you recently download something to your computer from the internet or load new software on your computer? I had a similar problem after downloading from the internet (disabled some of my site links) I had to delete some of my "cookies".

I apologize that I went off topic, but there is a popular italian proverb that says: "non c'è peggior sordo di chi non vuol sentire", and since the popular wisdom can't be translated, I add "a buon intenditor, poche parole!" ("capisci a mmé, Carole" Wink )

Hi Luca..

How long have you been having this problem? What error message are you getting when you try to log on? Can you email me your ip address at home? Perhaps the forum is set to block a certain range of ip's for some reason. Can you view any of the gentedimare websites or the surname database from home?

Send me as many details as you can and I'll look into this right away...

It's the same proverb in English:

"There are non so deaf as those that won't hear!" Luca adds "...a good judge, has few words!"

Right Luca?

Just my two cents but it may be you need to do some maintenance, i.e., Internet Explorer, delete cookies, delete histories, do a system clean to clear temporary files and so on. That solved the problem for me. In other words, clean up your system at home since at work the IT staff do this regularly.
