Why 3? I would have expected at least 4! Shocked

I'm not a genealogist nor a researcher, I just have a little experience in finding people as I searched (and still search) for many relatives of mine who emigrated to US.

I think you have noticed that there are other Carabellis on ship manifests, some of them came from Porto Ceresio so I would say that this is the right place to look for your ancestor. So wait for their answer and see what they say. BTW, Gasper is not an Italian name, could be the American version of Gaspare.
As for the other town Marchirolo, if you want your GGM birth act and/or her parents marriage, this is the link to the city hall (click on the 10th e-mail address for Ufficio Anagrafe). If you need church records let me know and I'll give you addresses both for Porto Ceresio and Marchirolo.

Uffici.

Yes, I think he's the same Giovanni and I suppose your GGM Carlotta was born in the same place as her brother. So you can request her birth certificate.

Thanks for your help on this one Ada - it was great kiss I know Cheryl is happy that you got there so fast.

I wonder if what Nuccia found giornale is connected to the same family. She'll probably follow it up together with what you found.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to follow up on this but I got called into work really early last night/this morning so I am posting from there (shhh..don't tell anyone). Will follow up when I get home. I think Ada is right on the money on this one. The person I looked at may be related but I will need to dig some more to be able to verify that. Looks like he was still living in 1920 (as per the census) but I haven't really looked over all the info yet.

Ada..as always, thank you!

Hi Nuccia, Wink

Cherylc, I found the 1900 census on this site, living in Berlin Town, Vermont

Carabelli

You will see both Charles and Charlotte but it looks like Charlotte remarried in 1917, just below Charles Carabelli, there is Charlotte Rampsanelli (mispelled but on the document is Rampanelli) Carabelli getting married to Joe Giaier. If you click on the name you will see details and the original document (click on small square right side up).

On the same site as above you will find many interesting details on Rampanelli's. Giuseppe Rampanelli was born 7th October 1852 and died 25th May 1924. His father's name was Giovanni and his mother was Emilia (sorry but the surname is unreadable). Vittoria Pellini was born 25th November 1855 and died 1st June 1942. Her father's name was Domenico. Both born in Italy and died in Cleveland.
There is also a Census 1900 with the three children.

Rampanelli.

And on this ship manifest Vittoria is travelling with Vittorina, her daughter, and she says she was born in Marchirolo and nearest relative in Italy is her son Giovanni. Address: Viale Umberto I°, 37 - Luino

ADA: yes, GGF-Charles died in 1913. Gramma Gaier (Charlotte) remarried to Joe from South America. She outlived him too! I was lucky enough to know her when I was a child, but back then children did not talk, they listened which is why there are so many holes in the knowledge of my history. I did not think to look past the original manifest I had found. It did not occur to me that she would have traveled back to Italy -- and it appears several times -- , though I do know she did not like the US and wanted to return to live in Italy.

I made a mistake in my previous post. Your last manifest shows Vittoria -- not Charlotte -- traveling back and forth to Italy. I'm going to check if Charlotte ever did, just out of curiosity. She yearned to go back home.

Oh, and thanks about the name Gasper/Gaspare. I got this info from my uncle who also told me my grandfather's middle name was Elsid -- that's how he pronounced it. When I asked him the spelling he said Alcide. On all of Charles' documents that I have from the US, he lists his name as Charles G so I had no way of knowing. It's good information!

Well the two on the manifest are: Vittoria(Pellini) married to Giuseppe Rampanelli and Vittorina Rampanelli is their daughter and younger sister of Charlotte. Charlotte is not listed in 1900 Census with parents and siblings as she was already married to Carlo. Don't know if Charlotte ever went back to Italy, there doesn't seem to be any manifest, unless she did with her second husband's surname.

Well, Alcide is an Italian name and also Gaspare but they are two different names.......so was he Carlo Gaspare or Carlo Alcide?

Good morning Ada, GGF was Carlo Gaspare (born in Italy) and GF was John Alcide (born in the US).

Carlo Gaspare is the one I'm looking for. Do you think since I requested a birth record for Carlo GASPER there will be a problem on the Porto Ceresio end? Or, do you think they will figure it out? Now, I'm concerned.
