This is a bit late in coming but AOL Hometown shut down permanently on Oct 31, 2008 so many websites and blogs are gone. I know of a few genealogy sites that have lost everything.

You can read about it here:

MSN is also shutting down their "communities" in February.

If You need to download lost files, these pages explains how that can be done. Good luck to anyone who had files there.

I received word about MSN but they are replacing it with www.multiply.com/

I signed up for it but haven't gone through it yet to see how it works. At least MSN gave people several months notice about the change.

Its just like aol to pull the rug out from people. They havent had a good reputation since I began using the computer in 1992. They tried to herd people in like cattle, and gave you a hell of a time, if you called to unsubscribe...offering you free months, bothering you with solicitation calls, etc. They would take control of your acct..weeding out your emails, etc. Bad. I used them twice, very early on..for a month each time. I have AIM..only because my daughter and many friends have aol and I could keep contact with them.

So the msn chat client is going out? Is that what you mean? I never even bothered with that one.

No..MSN had a "groups" site. Something like google pages or yahoo's free geocities pages. They decided to move their groups section or to Multiply.com which I think gives you more storage. MSN groups only had a small amount of storage space.
