From my PIE newsletter a member writes:
"I just wanted to let you all know that the other day, I was sent a survey
from Ancestry.com. They were wanting to know what information people would be
interested in for the upcoming year. One of the options they listed that
they are considering was the following: "Italian Vital Records 1800's-1900's.
Millions of birth, marriage, and death records of Toscana, Lombardia,
Liguria, and Piedmonte regions that are not available on microfilm.". Needless to
say, I voted for this database! Keep your fingers crossed, and maybe this
will be added in 2009!"
Now wouldn't this be nice?

While I am happy that more italian records are getting online, I sure wished they were my towns. Oh well. I am getting to feel like I am related to these trento people..lol

Hi Nuccia,
Any reason why these potential Italian records are so "north-heavy" Is it because they were never microfilmed?

I am not nuccia, but that would be my guess.
I think when I read that article on the world archives project, ancestry and the fhl were supposedly trying not to duplicate each other. I found that a strange thing to say, since the FHL is currently working on census records that ancestry has had out for years.
If that was the objective, I see no reason for sticking to the northern part of the country, since the fhl has no italian records online..and other than these trento baptisms, that are being worked on, there is none in their current list of projects, nor in their upcoming list.
I wonder if either of these places knows just how many southern italians are researching and could really use the southern records, too.

I also participated in the survey, which included a comments section for other things that members would be interested in. I indicated that I would be interested in the addition of other Italian records, including ones that had previously been microfilmed. I said that I didn't even care if they weren't indexed-- it's a lot easier to go through them online than to have to go to the family history center (when they are open) and search on the microfilm machines.
Anyway, who knows what my comments will count for-- I thought I would put them out there nonetheless!

Well, we are just about done with the trento baptisims. Only a few were available for arbitrating today..and thats what happens right at the end. There are no more italian records on their current or future list. I am gonna miss them..lol I really got so used to doing the italian records, that the american ones seem boring to me now..lol I would love to write the person who was in charge of this trento project..the one we contact if we need help...why no others will be coming any time soon.
For those of you indexing for ancestry..are there any italian records on their current indexing list?
I get the feeling that if they dont have many people who can index these foreign records..they wont put them out there. I would switch..and index for them..just for that reason.

I index for both...but for the time being, I have stopped at ancestry. If you want my opinion..do if for the FHL.
Ancestry is having some problems there...with giving proper instructions....plus now, they are giving "grades" on accuracy. You would hate to think you are wasting your time and not doing them correctly or not having them arbitrated correctly. The FHL software and method of indexing is less complicated, also.
The FHL has Italian records...trento baptisms.
If you want to try the fhl go here:
