Tom feel free to email it to me and I will post it for you. I won't be home until after 2 today though so you may have to wait a bit.

nuccia:

thank you. luca provided the translation information for me and to him i am always indebted. since that time i received another batch of documents from the researcher in italy, joe desimone, who has been helping me. he has been a tremendous resource for church records. i had given up writing to the church myself.

from joe i also learned about some other documents that i did not know existed and helped trace my folks to about 1580 which unfortunately for my family is the end of the line for the paternal side. those other sources included the Stato delle Anime (church census) dated 1654 and 1649 as well as some notary records from the comune.

now on the the maternal line....

thank you.

Hi Tom,

Just curious, does the church allow professional researchers to look at their records...I was under the impression that for the most part they didn't let anybody look at them or provide you with any info themselves.....I have visited the Chiesa Matrice [Mother Church where all the archives at kept] in Corato, Provincia di Bari and spoke with them and wrote down my request for a few documents ---- they did not want any money, and I never heard from them again. I also wrote to the Diocese Archivio in Trani --- an initial reply to my email and then nothing. I know of an American living in Northern Italy (Veneto) who is transcribing the parish records in a small town, but I thought this was very unusual.

Where does your researcher work [what region], and could you tell me what he charges?

thanks
