When I began going, I didnt even go to the one located a half hour away..it wasnt listed. I went to one about an hour away. It was there, that they told me about the one closer to me, but not before I had ordered and recieved my first film. Good thing I only ordered a couple..and not the whole town.
How I got my husband interested was, I did HIS father first. I SAW they had the towns of both MY father and his. I selected to work on his, because I knew he would be interested, which he was. We sat side by side, for all of the searching.
Prior to doing the Italian records, he took me to NYC to the library there, so I could find the ship passenger records. Its an hour ride for us..we went on sat mornings, 4 sats in a row. We didnt leave to eat, or smoke..and I didnt even go to the bathroom..lol
I found my husband to be somewhat interested and he was really a big help to me. Of course, he didnt have the interest I have...but enough, so that he didnt give me a hard time.
I could tell..he was proud of what we were doing...since he was telling Italians that he knew. They have a club, from his fathers town, in the city we used to live in. He happened to be there..and told whomever was there..about what we were doing..and whose surnames were showing up. (This is the town that I am certain, everyone in it is related..lol). The guys there told him..hey, you can make money doing this..why dont you advertise here. Is he nuts? I told my husband..anyone who wants to learn what to do..is welcome to call me. I will guide them and help them in any way I can..but, I wouldnt do this for any amount of money. This is really a labor of love..in some instances. Its not so easy, sometimes.
