Received a not too good copy of a birth record. Will be receiving a clearer one in about a week.

This is my first attempt to use photobucket. The record is for Francesco Rescigno b. 1864. I am especially looking to witness names and or other family names.

Hello lilbees and all members.

My name is Mary. This is my first attempt at replying so I hope I get this right. My computer skills are not the greatest.

I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes, but I couldn't resist translating this. I am transcribing for Nuccia for the Calabria Exchange (Comune di Ardore, where I was born) and I'm enjoying it. With the zoom at 200 and a magnifying glass, I think I got most of it. So here goes.

Year 1864, on the 20th day of August at 13 hours in front of me Alessandro Calvanese, mayor and official of the civil district of Roccapiemonte, Province of Principato Ceteriore appeared Giuseppe Rescigno, son of Francesco, age 23, woodworker, who showed me a male child, whom I visually recognized, and declared that said child was born of Chiara Barba, age 23, living with her husband, the declarer, on the 20th of the above named month at 8:00 o'clock in their own home.

The same also declared to give the child the name Francesco.

The aforementioned presentation and declaration were made in the presence of Gaetano de Bonis? profession, server? citizen living here and also Gaetano Pagano, profession, bricklayer, citizen living here, witnesses present at this act brought by the declarer.

The present act was read to the declarer and the witnesses and is signed by us and the declarer, not by the witnesses, since they do not know how to write.

Giuseppe Rescigno Alessandro Calvanese
T. Angrisano ?

Maybe someone else can figure out my ?'s.

Mary

WOW , that's great Mary.... your eyes must be really used to looking at these. I have a dreadful job reading them even with my glasses and a magnifying glass.

Don't know if this could be of any interest but on top of the document there is something handwritten which more or less says:

Francesco Rescigno on ...1886 married Francesca De Simone of the late Giovanni in Roccapiemonte as per record dated ...

On the right side of this document it's also said that the child was baptized on August 20.

The birth act number is 42

Dear Ada, didn't think, as bad as the copy is, that anyone could read the notation at the top of the record. This was definitely of interest to me.

Thank you so much.

lilbees,
You are welcome. I like these details, sometimes they give unexpected information.
I'll tell you a secret: I didn't think I could read that either. I saw there were names and little by little I realized this was one of those notation that officers add on birth certificates to say that such person got married with someone on a certain date. I could read names and year but not the whole date as it's mixed with what's written on the previous page.

Ciao

Ada

Sorry, lilbees, I meant to tell you that I could make out a few bits of the handwriting on top and was going to wait till you sent the better copy. It totally slipped my mind before I sent it. I'm glad Ada was able to figure it out for you.
