Just when you think you have found everything there is to find on the net...you didnt.

Last night, I wanted to make a fresh copy of my husbands fathers ship passenger record. After I did that, I decided to check everyone with the same surname. I came up with a person arriving 3 times, first name Lorenzo, which is my husbands grandfathers name. This lorenzo was from the same town..so I called my husband in and asked who this guy was. He said oh..I think my grandfather came here to work a few times and then went back. I told you that. Yeah? When? 16 years ago..when I was up to my nose in FHL records? I swear, I dont ever recall him telling me that, so never looked for this man.

Anyway, on one of these manifests, it has him going to his brother in law, Michele Del Mastro. I quickly checked to see how many sisters Lorenzo had. He had one, that died 9 years before and I had a husband for her, who was NOT del mastro. So...my only conclusion is, he has a sister I could not find. The brother in law relation, cant be from lorenzos wife, or the last name would be di pietro.

I have no ancestry access for censuses or any other records. I did a quick search there for Michele Del Mastro and came up with nothing.

If anyone can search anyplace..can you stick in this name. I have his ship passenger record from Feb 6, 1904, but thats all I was able to find. Oh, they are all from Guardia Lombardi, Avellino.

Hi Eleven,

There are films for civil registrations for Guadia Lombardi 1809-1910. I don't know if you have your films on loan at your center but maybe you could order the birth film(s) that might show all of Lorenzo's siblings. Just a thought.

Thanks biff. I am going to take a closer look at these. I think its him. I dont think he stayed here. I know, Lorenzo, my husbands grandfather, came to work here a few times, then went back home. I got the feeling that the del mastro man did the same thing.

Elizabeth, I researched those records back in 1992. It took me a whole year, of twice a week visits. If he had another sister, I never found her and I went record by record. I didnt use the indexes. I could have missed her. I have 3 siblings for lorenzos parents. Him, a brother and a sister.

Biff, this is definitely him. Thank you so much.

The address that he is going to is mulberry street.

In the manifest that Lorenzo is going to michele del mastro, the address is also mulberry street..a few blocks down.

I am glad I got the father and brothers name.

Many years ago, a woman emailed me about our Guardia Lombardi connection. We exchanged some information and to be honest, I cant recall if we connected any people or not. I want to guess, not, or I would have that information.

Last night, when I discovered this del mastro name, I googled it. I kept getting old ancestry forum posts, with posts by this woman and in one of them, she mentions the del mastro name, saying it is a rare name for that town.

This morning, I googled again and found a family tree site for this woman. Del mastro is definitely there, just not michele. But, what I did find..is we indeed have several exact matches. The thing is..she only lists the sibling connected to the direct line...so I cant get the people forward enough to connect them to my father in law..but, know we are connected. I just emailed her (with a 4 year old email address). I dont think she could help me any, as far as adding to my tree, except for this del mastro..but, I think I can give her a bunch of names.

Its amazing how there is still info out there to be found, if you look. I have found more things by accident, since the internet, than things I was actually looking for.

I dont think so. She died at age 21. I dont have any children for her.

I think I may have missed a sister. Or, lorenzo wasnt being truthful. I found that some of these old timers lied about the strangest things.
