I finally made contact with my cousins in Italy. She has asked me why I am searching for them. Can you help me explain? Feel free to use your own words. Thank you to anyone who can help. This branch of the family has been lost since 1911!

My great grandmother died when she was 29. She had four small children at the time. My great grandfather placed them in an orphanage in New York. We think he died a year later in Italy. No one knows what happened to him. My grandmother did not remember her parents because she was a child when they died. We would like to learn more about the family she never knew. We would like to learn more about her father too.

Thanks, Cathy. We are so excited! She seems quite excited too. I will keep you all updated. I am going to write back to her in my imperfect Italian, but for the text above, it is too important to masacre the language.

Lori, For something as important as this I whink you need one of our 'mother tongue' Italians like 'goganga' to help you write this particular letter.

For sure I could help, but the nuances used by a mother tonge will ensure that a clear understanding is given. So manypeople in Italy are still VERY suspicious about questions asked via 'internet' - that could be why the lady wants to know 'why' you are asking.

Thanks, Carole, I will look forward to gogangna or Riccardo or any of the other native speakers to lend a hand. In the meantime, I told her that I would need help to explain this in Italian but said that I wanted to learn the story of my great grandfather and his life in Italy.

You might want to PM Riccardo - I don't know if he checks this particular board. Give him the link: gentedimaregenealogy.c...opic&t=363

Thank you Balboa. You are so kind. I was able to have a friend translate it for me yesterday. I appreciate your offer!

Hello
This is the translation:

I hope it helps,
bye Riccardo
