Thanks, Cathy.

Here's what I'm coming up with for witnesses based on surnames I was able to find in San Marco in Lamis.

Luigi's witnesses--Michele Vigilante and Michele Martino

Veneranda's witnesses--Luigi Schiena and Angelo Diana???--there are currently no Dianas in San Marco.

San Marco in Lamis is in the province of Foggia.

Giuseppe's age was trenta..30.
No age given for witfe, Rosa though.

Witness Michele C 50
Witness Michele (Montera? or maybe Martino?) 27

Sorry..unclear about the names. Will need to look through ellis island manifests to see which names starting with the same letter as thes surnames are most common from the town. It sometimes works.

Giovanni was 40
No age for Maria Lucia.

Witness Angelo Diana 33
Witness Luigi Scleiena? 35 Again, need to verify with other records of what could be the names.

Hope this helps some. Do you need help witht he marriage acts to?

I found the surnmames Schiena, Martino and Vigilante in San Marco by doing a search here.
San Mango surname search

I located one Diana from San Marco in Lamis on Ellis Island and 37 in the province of Foggia on Pagine Bianche.

LDS has microfilms for
San Marco in Lamis 1809-1899 (73 reels)
San Mango d'Aquino 1809-1860 (3 reels)
Feroleto Antico 1811-1861 (5 reels)

Although the local FHC facility is only open a couple of days a week, they do have a computer slaved to the microfilm reader which allows saving documents to a CD. I've been meaning to vist them to scope out the facility and its procedures as well as ordering some microfilms (likely I'll begin with San Mango) and will do so after Isabelle is born when I'll be taking a couple of days off from work. I'm just hoping that I'll be able to schedule the use of the reader for a decent amount of time when the microfilms arrive since the facility is not open in the evening and I'll need to use vacation time to do my research.

In the meantime, I'm going to contact Acri and Bronte to request my wife's grandparents' documents so we can begin gathering information on her families.

If you need or advise help Biff let me know. I would highly recommend doing what Nuccia & I do. Scan, scan, scan then save everything on a flash drive or CD and bring it home and study your scans later. This will optimize your time in the FHC.
Now, we need to get you a website....hehehe

Cathy,
I'll take you up on asking for advice and I agree that I do need to establish some type of website which will be accessible to everyone although I'm not exactly sure what direction I want to take. Perhaps a family website with a concentration on the town of San Mango d'Aquino.

My new computer is on the way and I'm hoping to have it running by the end of this weekend or early next week. One of my coworkers will be setting things up and ghosting whatever files I need over to the new system after it arrives.

BTW, I was just back to visit you website and I'm amazed how much it's grown since I last visited. Congratulations. It's wonderful.

Biff,
You can do it. It is really easy on googlepages. I will help you anyway I can. I will even share my graphics you may need - I have a huge collection. Just let me know when you are ready. I am dying to Skype with you!!
I have been working hard on the site - thanks for noticing and for the compliment. I have a long way to go, but I will get there one day! I will not rest until I can put the picture of my great grandparents on the front page! And into my father's hands.

Ah, Cathy, the elusive pic of our ggf! I am hoping my new cousin in Italy will have one as well. Of course, at this point, if I could even have a pic of one of the ggf's brothers, that would be fulfilling.

You know, I think Cathy mentioned that it disappeared. I can't see avatars while I am at work, which is mostly when I am online (shhhh). So, I had no idea it is gone. I hope it comes back. LOL. I believe it is hosted through image schack. I had asked my nephew to set things up for me.

There is your problem - Image Shack -I know most people on this forum love Image Shack, but I cannot imagine why - their images always disappear! Shocked I think I still have your avatar on my computer at home. If you want me to I can upload it to Photo Bucket (whose images never disappear) and send you the link to add to your profile.

Unfortunately, Riccardo emailed me news today that has dramtically cut my chances of ever seeing their pictures - on a grave anyway. I always thought there was a good chance at the least I would visit one day and see their pictures on their headstones. They were not poor so they would have had the money. When my Argentinian cousin sent me those pictures of my grandfather's uncle, that only encouraged those thoughts. Riccardo told me today, all graves were removed to make a place for new graves. The bones were all put in a mass grave and the headstones are gone. Crying or Very sad Today, my heart is broken - I will never be able to place a wreath on their grave and pay my proper respects. This was really important to me - perhaps because all my relatives have moved away and I am the caretaker of our family graves. Today I am sad. But tomorrow I will request documents and hopefully, I will be able to find the children or grandchildren of my grandfather's brother and sisters! And if I am persistent, one day, I will be able to hand my father a picture of his grandparents! Very Happy
