I have not done too much with WIN8 other than explore (and I actually purchased an OEM copy of WIN7) the idea of downgrading to WIN7 --- no, I did not try to downgrade after I read an article that someone posted about doing that and then the laptop (exact model and config) would not boot anymore ---- you can run WIN8 on a WIN7 system but not vice versa due to a new file system. I'm still using my old laptop until it dies (just having death rattles so far). I'm hoping that by then Microsoft will release a new Service Pack to make it more user friendly and enable some of the traditional features that are buried under Metro......Toshiba was no help and it was too late to return it back to Staples.

I also bought a refurb 10" Motorola XOOM Tablet which has ANDROID....it has WIFI plus a slot for a SIM card (it is Verizon branded) ----- I bought it from a liquidator for ~$200 dailysteals.com. It works pretty well and is great when you are doing something else at the same time.

Good luck....BTW, there are lots of tools available (like STARDOCK) to mask some of the complexities....but as they say, when you put lipstick on a pig......

I am so happy I bought my PC JUST before WIN8 came out. My son has been bugging me and his brother to upgrade but we're NOT interested. I love new things but I am just not an application kind of person. I know i would hate it.

And recently investment firms have been recommending selling shares of Microsoft. One wonders how much longer Ballmer can remain CEO. XBox is one of the few MS products that has enjoyed continued success.

Now I wish they would explain how to back it out to Win 7.

I think they will release a service pack later this year to enable you to roll back some of the new features (mostly Metro Interface) to allow you to customize WIN8 into a more familiar user interface (aka WIN7).....I have read that a lot of the old features still exist under the covers.

The new interface probably works OK with a tablet or touch screen ----- it just sucks when using a mouse

Thanks for the links. Charlie, you are so very right! The new interface is very difficult to use with a mouse. I feel lost with it. I try to just use the desktop setting so I am a little more at home. I am looking forward to the service pack.

You might want to consider using a product like Stardock in the interim....it provides a START menu and cost me $5.00; there are also a few other aids (or should I say bandaids) available to make it a bit easier to use.

www.stardock.com for: Start8

Charlie, is it the Start 8 software from stardock that you purchased?

Downloaded StarDock on Win 8. Works fine, life is simpler now. Thanks Charlie
