Hey Lee, you mentioned on the other site a movie called "Vendetta" staring Christopher Walken. It sounded like something I needed to see. Well I bought it off of ebay and watched it the other night.

Has anyone else seen this movie? I think it was especially well done. But I have to say.....it made me hopping mad! I guess I never knew anything much about how Italians were treated in the early 1900's when they came to America until I started doing genealogy. I couldn't BELIEVE it was a true story! What an incredible piece of American history that I didn't learn in school.

Gina.....just now saw this post..... Embarassed
I am really sorry, what with the move and all....been incredibly busy.

The history of the Italians here in America is a subject that I never learned
in school, not only how they were sometimes treated, but the great contributions made to this country by the Italian people......sad.
I to learned of our history by pursuing genealogy.

Not to sound like a bigot......but black history month is so well presented.
Not only in our schools, but in the public as well....yet Italian history month comes and goes without any fanfare........no public service anouncements detailing the great contributions and achievements.....no special classroom projects.......and we certainly don't teach basic Italian phrases during this month as they do with the Spanish.......in some way, there is still
discrimination.

Lee, you are not a bigot.....but you are correct. Italians are still discriminated against, even in 2007. Thanks for the link. I have a LOT to learn.

Neither did I......however October is our month to celebrate.
I learned of this thru two other sites I belong to, the one above and
virtualitalia.......conversation came about at how to promote this month
of history and 31 days of Italians was born.....

home.earthlink.net/~31italians/

It would be nice to see public service anouncements on tv detailing the achievements of Italians and the contributions made to America........
maybe one day we will see it......but the list of the 31 members for
October is outstanding......and Tino, a member of ItalianAmericans has done a great job of presenting tidbits of history on Italy and the Italian
people......he has assembled some great pictures to go with his presentations as well.
Alot to learn!!!!
