I'll be waiting for a confirmation from Luca, in the meantime my best guess is

Joannes = Giovanni (male)
Baptized 1882 October xx, born Sept. 29, son of Lucia Distefano and Giuseppe (Joseph in Latin) Sapienza.
the right annotation states that on Oct 9, 1910 he married Concetta Grasso, daughter of Rosario and Sebastiana Grasso
img201.imageshack.us/i...posjf0.jpg

Maria
Baptized 1885 Sept 24, born Sept 22 daughter of Lucia Distefano and Giuseppe (Joseph in Latin) Sapienza.

Natalia 1880

Babies name – Agata. Per Livio: Ci deve essere stato un qualche errore da parte dell'ufficiale di Stato Civile, perché è impossibile che Lucia di Stefano (oltretutto di 66 anni) sia contemporaneamente levatrice e madre della bambina. Non pensi?

Grazie Luca!
Penso che sia un caso di omonimia... Oltre a tutto a 66 anni non penso possa aver partorito.

For those who do not understand Italian:
Luca was pointing out that the midwife has the same name as the mother. I believe it is a case of homonymy, they just happened to have the same name...

daughter of Lucia Proietto ???

Livio had translated the marriage act of Lucia Proietto and Giuseppe earlier in the thread. So maybe Proietto?

If Lucia Proietto is the same as Lucia Distefano why would she use her mothers surname of Distefano instead of her fathers surname of Proietto? I hope someone can answer this. I'm thinking maybe these two Lucia's are not the same person. We know Giuseppe was married more than once.

Can we get some opinions on the subject?

Livio and Luca - thank you so much - you are both FANTASTICO !! Wink

Livio - I thougth maybe Proietto had been mispelled on the document like Proiato. I'm sorry the images are so difficult to read, I tried to clean them up but they are still "fuzzy".

So we have:
Giuseppe Sapienza and Lucia Proietto married on January 1875

but the first son of Giuseppe Sapienza (in the documents above) is:
1880 December 25 Natalia (Mother Lucia ?)
1882 September 29 Giovanni (Mother Lucia Distefano ) then:
1884 December 14 Agostino (Mother Lucia Distefano )
1885 September 22 Maria (Mother Lucia Distefano )
1887 April 16 Rosa (Mother Lucia Distefano )
1890 April 22 Agata (Mother Lucia Distefano )
1891 December 24 Salvatore (Mother Lucia Distefano )
1893 April 19 Francesco (Mother Lucia Proietto)
year ? Luigi (Mother Lucia Distefano )
year ? Alfio Mother Lucia Distefano

1899 July 23 Anna Mother Lucia ? (Note: if the mother is the same of the marriage kept in 1875, she was 47 at that time!)

The question is: Lucia is alwais the same person? For a right answer you need to check the baptism acts between 1875 and 1880 (for sons of Giuseppe Sapienza), the marriages in the same period (alwais for Giuseppe Sapienza) and death acts after the last son (1899) (in this case for Lucia Proietto o Distefano)
I hope you can understand my (poor) English.
Ciao
Luca
