Livio, question! That arms for Drake, where did you get it? Was your great-grandfather James Drake authorized to use this one?
I only ask because it very well may help us establish from which Drake (and there are heaps) family he belongs. There are a few Moses Drake families in England, mostly in Yorkshire. If in fact your grandfather James Drake used the Exact Coat of Arms (legally, because there are laws governing who is and who is not able to carry specific arms) then we can search for it and find his true ancestry.
The arms you posted for Drake belong to the Drake of Ashe family.
Drake of Ashe
Not just any Drake could use them, only the direct descendants. Sir Francis Drake himself attempted to use these arms (claiming a relationship), in the end he was not permitted for lack of familial proof. Instead, Queen Elizabeth I awarded him his own Arms, which are completely different (naturally).

Jim,
I don't recall where I found the arms...
I remember that my grandmother Corinna Drake claimed that her family was descendant of Sir Francis Drake. She told me that her father James had a sword and trophy that were given to Sir Francis Drake by the Queen Elizabeth I. I have never seen these objects...

Wow! That is quite a story. I am at my wits end with Drake, I can't determine which of the Moses Drake's in the 1841 English Census (One even has a 15 year old son James, but is in Yorkshire) is yours.
In any case, Francis Drake had no children (although he was married twice), so it must be (if the story is true) that your James Drake descends from a sibling of Sir Francis.
I am going to try and get more information.
Jim

Although my great grandfather was born in UK, I know, from what my mother said, that he was Irish. I have the following info about him:
James Drake was born in 1819 in Liverpool, UK and died on 10 july 1905, location unknown. This is a Picture of his tomb:
James married Jane Moore. Jane died after 1905.
James and Jane had several children, the following list may be uncompleted:
M i. James Drake was born on 18 March 1846 in London, UK.
F ii. Harriett Drake was born on 21 February 1848 in London, UK and died on 02 November 1931 in Lion, France.

Jim just a refresher - Livio's great grandfather James born 1819 and his first two kids born in London.
Don't want to repeat but we're 5 pages in to the thread.....keeps from having to look back at page 1.
