Finally! Found the marriage record of my great great grandparents on the Van de Sandt side. Just guessing that they were married (if at all) around 1870-1874 I searched everywhere. Each had immigrated from Germany about 1865-1870 from Germany. Spent a lot of time assuming they were in or around New York. Wrong! As it turned out they resided in New Jersey. Well, New Jersey is not noted for their generosity in sharing records and also expensive for searches. All I ever received from both states was a "No record found" response. I used every conceivable spelling I could think of for their names with no luck. By the way, my gt. grandfather's name on the record was spelled Van der Sandt (a name variation I had not included).
Well, I was on the NJ Archives site the other day and found that they had a searchable index for marriages for the period 1848-1878 which was new. I put in my Gt. Grandmother's name and bingo, up popped the marriage shown to be in 1871 in Hudson County, no town location specified.
I immediately filled out the form, made out the check and mailed it off straight away. Finally! The only thing I wondered about is should I have included the copies of the "No records found" certificates they had sent me for both of the gt. grandparents. I had submitted search requests for, birth, marriage, death to both NJ and NY with the same story, nothing.
This is what, sometimes, makes genealogy difficult. But, I am smiling today. Should receive whatever info they have in about a month or so. I pressed my luck by also requesting the death record, again, for my gt. grandmother who I do know died in NJ 1896.
Just wanted to share my experience with all.

Wow! Nice! and of course, thank you for sharing that with us. I can't wait to hear the answer.
Do you have the link for the NJ Archive site? Always curious to check out sites I haven't looked at before.

I only have one more marriage to go for another set of great grandparents. Hope I get lucky with them.
